Last night, we ate takeout from one of our favorite restaurants: Birrieria Pepe El Toro on University Way. It was great as always.

But the focus of today’s post is the long history of restaurants operating inside houses. I understand this history was shaped by zoning and immigrant entrepreneurship. But the main reason we enjoy restaurants in homes is the neighborhood culture they build.
